Roundup: Tourney closes with KOR winning 3 golds and AUS 1

The 2007 International Archery Tournament concluded successfullly in Beijing on August 26. After seven days of fierce competition the 12 medals were shared by seven countries, namely the Republic of Korea (3 golds), Australia (1 gold), Malaysia (2 silvers), Russia (1 silver), the United States (2 bronzes), Poland (1 silver and 1 bronze) and Japan (1 bronze).

The KOR team made up of Sung Hyun Park, Eun Young Choi and Tuk Young Lee outscored their Russian counterparts 218-211 to win the women's team event. The Russian team (Tatiana Boroday, Victoria Dubanova and Natalya Erdyniyeva) placed second, followed by the United States squad (Khatuna Lorig, Jennifer Nichols and Karen Scavotto).

In the men's team event, the KOR team made up of Dong Hyun Im, Yeon Chul Kim and Chang Hwan Lee, though not as strong as their women compatriots, still led all the way, except a narrow win over Chinese Taipei by one point in the semifinals, before winning the final with ease. The silver and bronze medals went to Malaysia and the United States respectively.

In the women's individual finals, KOR's Sung-Hyun Park beat a strong field to win the title, followed by Justyna Mospinek and Malgorzata Cwienczek, both from Poland.

In the men's individuals, ROK-born Australian Sky Kim emerged the winner, while Chu Sian Cheng of Malaysia and Takaharu Furukawa of Japan placed second and third respectively.

Host China failed to perform well during the tournament. Zhang Juanjuan got into the top eight but lost to Ukraine's Viktoria Koval by one point in the quarterfinals. Jiang Lin made the round of 16 after beating two stronger opponents but was outscored by Japana's Takaharu furukawa in the extra.
