The women's individual finals of the 2007 International Archery Tournament concluded today, with Sung-Hyun Park of KOR claiming the title. At the post-final press conference Sung-Hyun Park said, "I'm happy to be the champion though this is not the Olympic Games. It would be great if I can be the champion at next year's Olympics."
Asked whether competing with two Polish opponents brought her great pressure, Sung-Hyun Park said all she told herself in the competition was to keep calm and win the title. "The pressure was there," she said, "but I would not get nervous. I enjoyed competing with a strong field of opponents."
Sung-Hyun Park's next goal is to win the Olympic title at the Beijing Games. In the Olympic history, there is no female archer who has won the individual title twice in a row. Commenting on this, Sung-Hyun Park said, "I don't know if I could be the champion next year. As there are many excellent archers in my country I have to go through Olympic selective trials first.
Commenting on FITA's adjusted competition format without intervals between the matches, Sung-Hyun Park said she liked it. "The weather is hot here, I think it's better to finish the matches as soon as possible."
