In the men's individual eliminations of the 2007 International Archery Tournament held on August 24, 60 archers from 24 countries and regions competed for the round of 16. After hours of intense competition, the top 16 for the men's individual finals were decided, including three from the Republic of Korea, two each from Chinese Taipei and Poland, and one each from Russia, the United States, Malaysia, Australia, France, Great Britain, Italy, Japan and host China.
The three ROK archers, Chang Hwan Lee, Yeon Chul Kim and Dong Hyun Im, finished second, third and fourth respectively in the ranking round to directly qualify for the 1/32 eliminations. In the 1/16 elimination round, all of them beat their opponents by a wide margin to enter the top 16.
Rafal Dobrowolski of Poland, finishing 18th in the ranking round, encountered a strong German opponent in the 1/32 round but managed to advance by one point, and then outscored another opponent from Italy to make the top 16.
The two Chinese Taipei archers, Kuo Cheng Wei and Wang Cheng Pang, will meet each other in the 1/8 round.
Malaysia's Chu Sian Cheng eliminated his Spanish opponent by a wide margin in the 1/32 round, and then beat teammate Mohd K Wan Ab Aziz 112-107 in the 1/16 to enter the last 16.
China's Jiang Lin gave an outstanding performance in both elimination rounds, outscoring Juan Rene Serrano Gutierrez of Mexico and Ryuichi Moriya of Japan, both by one point, to make the last 16.
As the only French archer in this tournament, Romain Girouille showed his strength by finishing 13th in the ranking round and outdoing Daniel Pavlov of Bulgaria and Yong Fujun of China in the following rounds. The spectators were all impressed with his calmness in competition.
The men's 1/8 elimination round throughout the finals will be held on August 26.
