Poland, US predominant in women's individual top 16

The "Good Luck Beijing" 2007 International Archery Tournament wrapped up its women's individual 1/16 eliminations today as 53 archers from 20 countries and regions were competing in the matches with the US and Poland each sending three to the next round.

Both ROK and France made two players qualified and Columbia, China, Russia, Chinese Taipei, Ukraine and the UK made one apiece.

Malgorzata Cwienczek of Poland, who ranked 22nd in the ranking round, beat her counterparts of Ukraine and ROK respectively in the elimination matches today.

Seeded Jennifer Nichols of the US directly cruised into the last 32 and outscored her rival of the UK in today's game. Her teammates Khatuna Lorig and Karen Scavotto also had no problem in entering the next phase.

Zhang Juanjuan, China's only player making to the last 16, ejected her Malaysian and Russian opponents respectively in the elimination matches.

Ukraine's Viktoria Koval made to the 1/16 eliminations automatically thanks to her fifth finishing result in the ranking round and she thrashed a Dane archer 109-97 to enter the last 16.

Seeds Choi Eun Young and Park Sung-Hyun of ROK each had an easy win to book the place in the next round.

The most lucky archer of the day was French Virginie Arnold, who first outscored 3 points over her Italian opponent and outlived a Swiss in the overtime of the 1/16 elimination game.
