ROK leads in women's ranking round

The "Good Luck Beijing" 2007 International Archery Tournament opened at the Olympic Green Archery Field today as the Republic of Korea scored 1979 to lead the women's individual ranking round, beating Poland's 1958 into second place and USA's 1938 third. China settled for the sixth with 1911 and will shoot in the upper conference of the upcoming team 1/8 eliminations.

All together 27 teams around the globe are competing in the tournament and 53 archers from 16 teams participated in the women's 70m ranking round which determines individual results as well as the team records.

In today's ranking round, Justyna Mospinek of Poland scored 675 to top the individule rankings. Plus her teammates Malgorzata Cwienczek's 639 and Iwona Marcinkiewicz's 644, Poland ended up in the second place with an aggregate 1958.

Traditional powerhouse the Republic of Korea sent its "Dream team" to the event as individual second and third Park Sung Hyun (668) and Choi Eun Young (664) grouped with their compatriot Lee Tuk Young, who scored 647, to combine for a 1979 lead in the team rankings.

China's veteran He Ying only got 627 to stand at 32 with her teammates Guo Dan (639) and Zhang Juanjuan (645) at 23 and 13 respectively. China's team scoring was 1911, at the sixth position.

Tomorrow morning will see the women's team 1/8 eliminations as well as the quarterfinals.
