Archery is an all-day competitive sport. Its competition rules are simple and results are obvious. As this sport is very spectacular and has affinity to people, to develop mass archery has unique natural advantages. However, archery is not well developed in China and has low recognition among the mass. Even the domestic media seldom report on the archery event. In face of the unpopularity of archery, how does the FITA try to promote and popularize it in China and the whole world?

To this question, Ugur Erdener, FITA President answered, "The FITA has launched some special plans in recent few years, for example, holding the World Cup, television broadcasting and ticket sales as well as sponsors to promote archery. From the World Championship in 1992, we started to adjust the event of archery so that we can make archery more spectacular and enable more people to understand archery competitions. Meanwhile, we hold the World Cup series in four different places so that more audience can be attracted. One was held in Shanghai last year. Besides, we also adopt some measures to accelerate the tempo of competitions to make them smoother."

Erdener pointed out that the FITA has always been engaged in the sport exhibition work of archery in recent years to establish a more professional sport image. Last year, the television coverage rate of archery greatly improved and the audience of the sport amounted to 0.9 billion. Though these figures are not considerable in comparison with other sports, they are good signs for archery.

At last, Tom Dielen, FITA Secretary General added, "We are seeking to popularize archery in the whole world through strengthening cooperation with television broadcasting providers. At present, we have set an archery channel in Turkey. Also, many television stations have started to broadcast excellent compact programs of archery competitions, for example, China's CCTV. In November, Zhang Juanjuan, a Chinese archer, will participate in the World Cup. At that time, I hope more Chinese media will be attracted to report on this event. In the course of popularizing and developing archery, the force of media is indispensable."
